There are a number of factors and issues to consider when designing, resourcing and locating Spill Kits and Response Equipment.
- Selecting the right equipment for the appropriate risk response
- The amount required for containment/clean up
- How it is to be stored and accessed
These are just a few questions that you need to keep in mind when considering which Spill Kit is best for your business.
A clearly labelled Spill Kit, located in an easily accessible location should be part of an action plan that you should implement which will prevent spills polluting soils, groundwater, stormwater drains and waterways.
The are generally four different groups of Spill Kits:
- Hydrocarbon (Oil and Fuel) only Spill Kits - which are designed to recover oil and fuels in and around water and wet conditions without absorbing the water.
- General Purpose Spill Kits - which have absorbents that will deal with both water based non-hazardous liquids (coolants, water based paints etc) as well as hydrocarbons.
- Chemical Spill Kit - which is best for liquids such as acids, bases and general chemicals but can still absorb hydrocarbons and general fluids.
- Special Fluid Spill Kits - which is specific risk liquids such as body fluids, mercury, formaldehyde etc and contain absorbents that best handle these fluids.
All items within each Spill Kit can be individually ordered and all Spill Kits can be made to suit any application.
