A clearly labelled Spill Kit, located in an easily accessible location should be part of an action plan that you should implement which will prevent spills polluting soils, groundwater, stormwater drains and waterways. There are generally four different groups of Spill Kits: Hydrocarbon (Oil and Fuel) only Spill Kits - which are designed to recover oils and fuels in and around water and wet conditions without absorbing the water. General Purpose Spill Kits - which have absorbents that will deal with both water based non-hazardous liquids (coolants, water based paints etc) as well as hydrocarbons. Chemical Spill Kits - which is best for liquids such as acids, bases and general chemicals but can still absorb hydrocarbons and general fluids. Special Fluid Spill Kits - which is for specific risk liquids such as body fluids, mercury, formaldehyde etc and contain absorbents that best handle these fluids.
